Set in Yorkshire in 1908, inJ.B. Priestley's comic tale centres around three highly respected couples. Married on the same morning in the same church, the Helliwells, the Soppitts and the Parkers are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary together when a shocking revelation turns their lives upside down. The vicar who conducted the services all those years ago was never licensed, meaning the couples have been living together in sin.
Worried about their reputations, cracks in their relationships also start to show. With their lives in disarray, home truths fly and resentments boil as they struggle to hide their shameful secret.
