Wicked Breaks Records In Oz

Wicked, the musical phenomenon that has taken the world by storm, has conquered yet another country.

The production opened in Australia on July 12th at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne to glowing reviews. Within 48 hours the show had made $1.5 million in ticket sales, demolishing Australian box office records. In little over a week the unstoppable blockbuster had advance ticket sales of $13 million.

Australian co-producer, John Frost, was elated with the resounding success of Wicked in Australia saying, "The fantastic critical reaction and overwhelming audience excitement for Wicked in Melbourne has exceeded our wildest expectations. We always felt there was a huge audience for Wicked here in Oz, and we're thrilled that Melbourne has embraced this spectacular musical as its own. The down-under production of Wicked looks to be continuing the show's traditional awe-inspiring popularity. Since it opened in 2006 the West End staging of Wicked has grossed over £50 million. Consistently the West End's top grossing show, Wicked was the first Broadway transfer for almost a decade to recoup its initial investment.

The success of Wicked is well deserved, with superb casting, a beautiful score, jaw-dropping sets and exquisite costumes on top of a compelling and well thought out story. Wicked has earned every penny in it's rapidly swelling piggy bank.
