West End Extensions for two top shows
Two of the West End's top shows have announced extended booking periods. Chicago has extended it's run by a further five months while the long-running Phantom of the Opera has bolstered it's booking period with a further 6 months.
Now booking until 30th July 2009 at the Cambridge Theatre, Chicago follows chorus girl Roxie Hart on her razzle-dazzle journey from murder, death row and battles with Velma Kelly to her release. From June 2nd Roxie Hart will be played by former Hear'Say member and Dancing On Ice champion Suzanne Shaw (pictured right).
Chicago has been delighting audiences since it opened at the Adelphi Theatre in 1997, transferring to the Cambridge Theatre in 2006. With a run of over ten years, Chicago is now the sixth longest-running current London production.
The second-longest running show in London and one of the most successful musicals of all time, Phantom of the Opera is now booking until April 2009. The West End production first opened at Her Majesty's Theatre, where it remains today, on 9th October 1986 with its 9,000th production scheduled for 31 May.
Having taken over £1.7 million at box office worldwide, The Phantom of the Opera has been seen by more than 100 million people in over 124 cities across the world. The show is a haunting love story based on the novel by Gaston Leroux, following the Phantom and his love for the beautiful young opera singer Christine only to kidnap her when he learns of her feelings for Raoul.
