Webber Confirms Phantom Sequel
It has been rumoured for a while now that theatre impresario Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber was working on a sequel to the hugely successful production Phantom of the Opera. In an interview with the BBC, Lord Webber confirmed that he is indeed writing for Phantom of the Opera II and hopes it will be a finished article by Christmas 2009.
With the working title Phantom: Once Upon Another Time, Lord Webber is hoping to repeat the box office success that the original Phantom has reaped for the past twenty two years. The popular production which now plays in more than 20 countries is estimated to have made over $3.2 billion since first opening in the West End in 1986.
Only time will tell if the sequel proves popular with London audiences but with Lord Webber's track record I think it's safe to say that this musical will be the most talked about show in 2009. In fact the theatrical genius is so busy with his latest project that he is questioning whether he will have the time to film another reality talent search for the BBC next year. Almost having come to the end of his latest search I'd Do Anything; this time for the Cameron Mackintosh production of Oliver!, Lord Webber is unsure if he can dedicate the time to find another budding West End star and has even suggested that if he commences a new search, he may well do so in America.
All I can say is that I can not wait to see what Lord Webber and his creative team come up with and if his next search for a theatrical star does take place in America, I better invest in Sky TV.
