The Gruffalo returns to The West End this Christmas
The multiple award-winning children's book, The Gruffalo, is set to return to London's West End for a short period this Christmas. From November 26 until January 4, 2009, the kid's classic is showing at the Duchess Theatre, home of Buddy Holly tribute musical, Buddy.
Buddy will continue its nightly schedule throughout the festive period as The Gruffalo will be playing during the daytime only. Performances last just 55 minutes and will show at 11:00am Tuesdays to Fridays, 10:30am and 12:00pm on Saturdays and 11:00am and 13:30 on Sundays.
The Gruffalo (played by Mark Peachey) tells the story of Mouse as he journeys into the deep dark wood hunting for hazelnuts. On his adventures, Mouse runs into all sorts of trouble in the form of wheeler-dealer Fox, Air Force Officer Owl and party animal Snake. His tall tales of an imaginary monster friend backfire on Mouse when he comes face-to-face with the very creature of his imagination. Ideal for three to six year-old imaginations, The Gruffalo is the perfect reason to take your children to the West End this Christmas.
The Tall Stories stage show is adapted from Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler's multi-award winning book. Since being published in 1999, The Gruffalo has become the biggest selling picture book in Britain. Having sold more than 2m copies in the UK alone, the book has been translated into 20 different languages. In 2005, its sequel, The Gruffalo's Child, was named Children's Book of the Year at the British Book of the Year Awards.
