Sparkly Sarah Finally Flickers Out

Sarah Lark

Last Sunday it was Sarah's turn to bow out from the BBC's hit talent show I'd Do Anything . With only six Nancy hopefuls left in the running, who do you think will be the next to go?

The 25 year old Sarah Lark had been making quite an impression on the judges with her increasing determination to get the role. The panel had thought she was too cute and bubbly to play the streetwise Nancy but, after weeks of toughened-up training and a couple of bottles of the old brunette hair dye, Sarah was beginning to look like she could pull off the role after all.

A great singer and an improving actress, it's clear that some of the panel thought that she had a little further to go in the competition yet and that it was a shame to see her go. When she was paired in the sing off with bookies' favourite Rachel however, the decision was never really going to go in her favour.

Sarah had tried to suppress her smiley disposition this week by focussing on the complexities of the famous Mr Bojangles. An interesting song covered by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone and Sammy Davis Junior, Sarah did her best to convey the emotion of lyric but the public obviously felt she didn't measure up. The panel were divided on the subject too. Denise and John felt that she told the story of the down and out Bojangles perfectly, but Barry Humphries found her performance strained and limited.

When it came to the sing off Andrew had nothing to say other than that he blamed himself for Sarah's departure. Having tutored her to sing the song all week, he felt responsible for the fact that she was in the bottom two.

Meanwhile, with youngsters like Jessie, Niamh and Samantha all giving dazzling performances and more seasoned performers like Rachel finding themselves falling out of favour with the public, the competition seems more open than ever. It's quite the question; just who will step forward now and take the Nancy crown? We here at Show and Stay® are in a right pickle. We'll keep our ear to the ground though and let you know of any news or gossip surrounding the I'd Do Anything girls as and when it happens.

See you next time.
