TV Star Sanjeev Bhaskar to Reign in Python's Spamalot

Spamalot

Best known for his strong comic turns in both Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at no. 42, Sanjeev Bhaskar is set to take over the role of 'King Arthur' in Spamalot from 23rd June.

In a part that has previously been played by such theatrical luminaries as Simon Russell Beale and Tim Curry, Bhaskar will lead the Python themed musical at the Palace Theatre until the show steps down from the West End to take a UK tour in the new year.

Based largely on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail the musical, written by ex-Python Eric Idle, follows the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as they search for the sacred relic. Full of typically 'Pythonesque' craziness that includes killer rabbits and flatulent French Knights, the new musical has charmed audiences both in the West End and on Broadway since it opened in 2005.

The proud winner of two Tony Awards, Spamalot has already established itself as one of the funniest and most likeable shows around. Having received rave reviews from both critics and the public alike, now might be the perfect time to catch this gem of a musical with a shiny new cast.

Due to close in the new year and then embark on a UK tour, Bhaskar could be the final big name to take on the role whilst the show is still in the West End. The rest of the cast includes, Nina Soderquist as 'the Lady of the Lake', Ross Dawes as 'Sir Robin', Gerard Carey as 'Herbert' and Jake Nightingale as 'Sir Lancelot'.
