Public To Join Olivier Award Panels
The Society of London Theatre has made a once in a lifetime offer to the general public, the opportunity to apply for a position on the panels that will decide the winners of the 2010 Laurence Olivier Awards.
Only ten regular theatregoers will be selected from the thousands of applicants. Entrants must be over 18, live within easy reach of London and have a good knowledge of theatre. This understanding must be expressed in a 150 word review of a recent production which must be included in all applications.
Four lucky applicants will join the theatre panel alongside five theatre professionals, two will join the opera panel with three professionals and another two will join the dance panel, again with three professionals. Theatres not in the West End but with a London postcode will be categorised as 'affiliates'.
Those selected to join the panels will receive free theatre tickets throughout 2009 and will be expected to see over 80 shows throughout the course of the year. This considerable workload will be slightly lighter for the dance and opera panellists who will be expected to see fewer productions.
The Olivier Awards are widely considered to be the most prestigious of the UK theatre awards. They were first established in 1976 when they were known as The Society of West End Theatre Awards. In 1984 the awards were renamed to honour celebrated actor, Sir Laurence Olivier. The awards are organised and financed by the Society of London Theatre.
Those wishing to apply for a position on the 2010 panels are advised to apply via the Society of London Theatre's website.
