Amy is the first to go

Amy Booth-SteelAmy Booth-Steel was the first Nancy to be sent home. Amy and Francesca Jackson collected the fewest votes of the evening meaning they had to battle each other in a bid to stay in the competition.

The two performed a duet of the song, Tell Me On A Sunday, in front of Andrew Lloyd Webber to decide who should stay. After a tearful performance from them both, and much deliberation from Andrew Lloyd Webber, it was decided that Francesca deserved to stay more. When probed on his reasons, Lloyd Webber stated "The standard is so high.. and because you [Amy] bottled out with the intonation (the tuning that is) and because I just worry very strongly about whether you would be able to cut it."

A harsh but fair decision from the judge almost brought the potential Nancy to tears once more, but some consolidation was given: "You've done so well to get this far. Remember how many of our Marias have gone on to do so many other things." Siobhan Dillon who was a runner up in the BBC's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? now performs on stage in the West End as Patty Simcox in Grease and Aoife Mulholland is the understudy for the show's winner, Connie Fisher. There is indeed still hope for Amy.

Amy was invited to perform one more song before her departure, As Long As He Needs Me, a number from Oliver itself. The final insult came as her temporary adversary, Francesca, removed the medallion from around her neck, thus signalling the end of her time in the competition. Her rendition of the closing song was full of passion and emotion and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

So as Amy is sent packing, we all eagerly await the next instalment of I'd Do Anything. Keep an eye on Show and Stay for all the latest news on the show.
