Micky Dolenz To Play Wilbur Turnblad In Hairspray

Micky Dolenz, former drummer of The Monkees is to star as WIlbur Turnblad in West End musical Hairspray.
Dolenz, a musician turned TV and stage director will play Wilbur Turnblad, devoted husband and owner of the Har-De-Har Hut joke shop, from February 2, 2010. Dolenz will star alongside Brian Conley who will return to the production to play larger-than-life Edna Turnblad on the same date.
Dolenz commented: “I remember going to the original premiere of the movie in the 80s. I loved the piece then and I love it now. Having four daughters, I can certainly relate to Wilbur’s love and support for his little girl.â€
Hairspray is currently showing at the Shaftesbury Theatre and stars Phill Jupitus, Belinda Carlisle and Sharon D Clarke.
