Mackintosh Triumphs in Stage Top 100

Cameron Mackintosh has been named the most influential man in British theatre by the Stage newspaper.

Prolific West End producer and impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh has beaten Andrew Lloyd Webber to the title of 2007 most influential person in British theatre. Lloyd Webber who has won the title six times was pipped at the post by Mary Poppins producer Mackintosh and deservedly so. The renowned producer has spent a reported £35 million this year on refurbishing his West End theatres as well as brokering a deal to open his hit shows in China. Mackintosh will also begin 2008 working alongside Lloyd Webber to find the stars for Oliver! in new BBC talent search programme "I'd Do Anything".

Mackintosh has won the title three times previously and it will be interesting to see if he can keep the crown in 2008. Amongst the top 10 of who's who in British theatre are Bill Kenwright, David Ian and Howard Panter (Ambassador Theatre Group). The full Stage top 100 can be found in the Stage newspaper, published 28th December 2007.
