Atherton Returns to the Avenue
Julie Atherton reprises her role in West End musical Avenue Q from December 1, replacing current 'Kate Monster' and 'Lucy the Slut' star Rebecca Lock, marking Avenue's 1000th performance.
Popular West End musical Avenue Q welcomes back original 'Kate Monster' and 'Lucy the Slut' actress Julie Atherton from December 1 to mark the 1000th performance of the London show. Atherton will stay with the show until its last performance at the Noël Coward theatre scheduled for March 28 2009.
Further cast changes include Filipino actress Joanna Ampil as 'Christmas Eve' and Rachel Jerram as 'Mrs T/Bear', both joining Atherton from December 1. Jerram is currently part of the Avenue Q ensemble whilst Ampil joins the cast after a successful European tour as 'Mimi' in Rent.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh said of the approaching milestone for the show:
I am thrilled that Avenue Q is now about to celebrate its 1000th performance in London. Even though we received mixed reviews when we opened over two and a half years ago, this unique show with its wicked songs and feel-good story immediately established itself as one of the most original productions bringing a new audience into the West End. I am also delighted to welcome back our highly acclaimed original leading lady Julie Atherton who together with the very talented Joanna Ampil will join Daniel Boys and a terrific cast for our final season.
With a cast of actors and puppets, this humourous production is the story of graduate Princeton and his colourful foray into adult life. When Princeton moves to Avenue Q he begins a journey of self-discovery with a little help from his weird and wonderful neighbours.
A musical like no other, if you haven't seen this yet what are you waiting for?
