Jam, Jerusalem And The West End

Full Theatre

New show Calendar Girls intends to settle down in the West End at the end of 2008. This recent screen to stage adaptation is based on the 2003 film of the same name by Tim Firth. The film centres around a Women's Institute group posing for a risqué calendar in order to raise money for Leukaemia Research. Calendar Girls is based on a true story and was very well received in the UK, winning the British Comedy Award for best comedy film.

The new stage show will star Loose Women's Lynda Bellingham who is no stranger to the stage. She has appeared in Sugar Mummies at the Royal Court and more recently, Vincent River at the Trafalgar Studios, which received critical acclaim and later transferred to Broadway. Appearing alongside Bellingham will be a host of familiar names and faces including Gaynor Faye, Julia Hills, Joan Blackham, Sian Phillips, Bridget Forsyth, Elaine C Smith, Abby Francis, Carl Prekopp, Gary Lilburn and Gerard McDermot.

Calendar Girls UK tour ends on the 13th December in Plymouth, after which the show will settle in an as yet undecided West End theatre. Exact dates are also not yet confirmed. Whenever and wherever this new comedy opens, we at Show and Stay® wish it luck. There is always room for one more feel good comedy in the West End.
