McEwan Opera For You
For You is a libretto by Atonement author, Ian McEwan which tells the story of an arrogant composer who yearns for the thrills of his youth. The Opera is currently showing at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio, London, as part of its UK tour.
The tour started in Wales on 31 May 2008 and finishes at the Gala Theatre, Durham on 24 November, 2008. Opera fans eager to see the author's latest works at the Royal Opera House will be able to see the show on various dates up until 2 November.
For You is a collaboration between McEwan and long-time friend and composer, Michael Berkeley. McEwan jested that he was "half bullied" into the project by Berkeley before adding he deliberately chose themes of sex, obsession and adultery as he felt they were particularly suited to Opera.
"You need something bold, something savage, unpredictable, passionate... you can't really run a two-hour opera round some muted murmuring."
McEwan and Berkeley are no stranger to working together having previously collaborated on the oratio Or Shall We Die? more than 25 years ago.
The novelist has enjoyed much success over the years winning the Booker prize for On Chesil Beach as well as writing the recently converted to film, Atonement.
For You is on tour now, don't miss out on your chance to see this extraordinary Opera.
