West End Reality Concept takes to the Sky

I'd Do Anything Judges

Rumours are circulating that I'd Do Anything judge, Denise Van Outen has been asked to front a new show for Sky, themed on West End musicals.

It seems that the Show and Stay® team may well have something else to look forward to when the Oliver and Nancy talent search programme, I'd Do Anything ends next week. Sky are rumoured to be planning a reality style entertainment programme based on the West End hit show Hairspray. Titled Hairspray: The School Musical the show will follow the preparation of a school production worthy of West End status.

Director of programming for Sky 1, 2 and 3 Richard Woolfe spoke about the concept, "Hairspray: The School Musical will show all the emotions of the theatre: stage fight, crises in confidence, life-changing accomplishments and tears of joy, within a fantastic TV format." According to rumour, Denise Van Outen has been approached to front the programme, with a host of other celebrities and the original creative team behind Hairspray already signed up to lend their knowledge and expertise to the aspiring actors.

It's at times like these that Show and Stay are glad Lord Lloyd Webber introduced theatre to the medium of television. All we need to find out now is if this programme will go ahead and when we can watch it. Fingers crossed it's Saturday night as there'll be a theatre reality shaped hole to fill from the end of May .
