Grease gives Christmas gift to Macmillan

The West End production of Grease has presented the Macmillan Cancer Support with an early Christmas present - a cheque for £500,000.

The funds were raised through a specially staged gala performance, the leads from the show appearing on Celebrity The Weakest Link and a donation of £1 from every ticket sold in the production's first year. The cheque for the donation was presented by producer David Ian to actress and supporter of Macmillan Elizabeth Hurley at a special performance that was also attended by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

Elizabeth Hurley stated: "I am thrilled to accept this cheque for Macmillan Cancer Support, and on behalf of Macmillan I would like to thank everyone involved in Grease for this incredible donation. This money will be put to immediate use to enable Macmillan to continue to improve the lives of people affected by cancer."

Grease opened on August 8th 2007 after its leads were cast by the televised talent search Grease Is The Word. The show is set in the 1950's at Rydell High and follows the highs and lows of students including Danny and Sandy. The West End revival is based on the previous production that ran in London's theatreland for more than 6 years and embarked on a successful international tour.
