Gareth Gates to Play Joseph?
Reality TV and one time pop star, Gareth Gates is rumoured to take the lead in the West End production of Joseph.
Gates is due to take over from the current Jospeh, Lee Mead, in January when the Any Dream Will Do winner leaves the production.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a light hearted take on the Biblical story of Jospeh and his 11 brothers. Previous names to have played the protagonist included Australian actor, Jason Donovan and daytime TV presenter and one time friend of Gordon the Gopher, Phillip Schofield.
Gareth Gates is in the middle of a major come back after first springing to fame on our television sets at the age of just 17 years old in ITV's Pop Idol (2002). After a string of hits in the UK charts, the star was dropped by his record label in 2006 and had a relatively quiet spell away from the public eye.
The star is about to take centre stage as Prince Charming in the classic panto, Cinderella, at the New Wimbledon Theatre, London. The pantomime is running from 5 December through until 18 January 2009.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is now playing at the Adelphi Theatre.
