Maria Friedman and Daniel Dae Kim To Star In The King and I
Maria Friedman and Daniel Dae Kim will play the lead roles in an upcoming production of The King and I at the Royal Albert Hall.
Friedman is perhaps best known for her Olivier Award nominated performance as 'Marian' in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White and her one-woman show Maria Friedman: Re-Arranged. She has won three Olivier awards, been nominated for seven and is considered amongst the most talented of musical theatre actresses.
Daniel Dae Kim is a prolific television sci-fi and fantasy actor. He is best known for his role as 'Jin-Soo Kwon' in the hit US television series Lost. He has also appeared in CSI, Angel, 24, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, ER, Charmed, The Shield, NYPD Blue and Seinfeld.
The production will be directed by The Sound of Music's Jeremy Sams with choreography by Susan Kikuchi who has worked on nine international productions of The King and I. Sets and costumes will be handled by Robert Jones and musical production by Gareth Valentine.
The King and I is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical based the book Anna and the King by Margaret Landon. The show last appeared in London at the Palladium in 2000.
The King and I opens at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 June, 2009 and will run until 28 June.
