Carousel Is Coming Back To West End
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel is the latest classic musical poised for a West End revival. The 56 year old production will transfer to the Savoy Theatre after its autumn tour, which begins on September 26th 2008 at Bromley's Churchill Theatre. Carousel's run at the Savoy Theatre will begin on December 2nd 2008, initially running for eight months.
The show will star Lesley Garett, a breathtakingly talented opera soprano who only recently made her musical theatre debut. Ms. Garett appeared in Rodger and Hammerstein's best known show, The Sound Of Music, as Mother Abbess in 2006. Garrett will be joined in Carousel by Jeremiah James and Alexandra Silber, a Savoy Theatre veteran who recently appeared in the theatres production of Fiddler on the Roof.
Carousel premiered on Broadway in 1945 and was subsequently made into a Hollywood film in 1956. Since then it has been performed around the world and enjoyed success in the West End and on Broadway in the 1990s. The story is a departure from the typical musical theatre happy ending. It tells the tale of a tragic love affair between a carousel attendant and a kind hearted young girl. The show offers a delightful mix of fantasy, romance, tragedy and a touch of spirituality. With a melancholic yet thoroughly captivating storyline Carousel is a perfect show for fans of Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.
After a break of over 14 years Carousel is certain to delight an audience of newcomers and die hard fans of the classic musical. We at Show and Stay® look forward to the opportunity to offer you our first review.
