Breakfast at Tiffany's in the West End
The iconic Hollywood comedy starring Audrey Hepburn has been adapted for the London stage.
Set to play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Breakfast at Tiffany's will follow the current star-studded production of Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Also directed by Sean Mathias, who is the artistic director for the whole season, Breakfast at Tiffany's will star Anna Friel as the beautiful Holly Golightly.
Breakfast at Tiffany's kicks off when William 'Fred' Parsons, a penniless, young writer from out of state, moves to Manhattan and finds himself living in the same apartment as the captivating Golightly. With a string of wealthy suitors lining up, Fred must do something quite special to win her heart.
When Breakfast at Tiffany's opens on 29 September, it will mark Anna Friel's first West End performance since 2001. Currently the star of US drama Pushing Daisies, Friel is still fondly remembered for her performances in Land Girls and Brookside.
Discussing the project, Friel has said: Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's has always been one of my favourite novels and I am delighted to have been given both the opportunity to play one of my all time favourite heroines, Holly Golightly, and to be returning home to the London stage.
American actor Joseph Cross plays Fred. Famous for starring alongside Sean Penn in the Oscar-winning Milk, Cross has also appeared in films as diverse as Running with Scissors and Flags of our Fathers.
A new adaptation by Samuel Adamson, Breakfast at Tiffany's has a rather turbulent reputation on the stage. A Broadway musical version of the film, starring Mary Tyler Moore as Holly, was a notorious flop in 1966. Never officially opening, the show closed after just four preview performances.
