Branagh No Longer Directing Donmar's Hamlet

Pirate Booty

Kenneth Branagh has withdrawn from his upcoming position as director of Donmar Warehouse's staging of Hamlet starring Jude Law, due to open in 2009.

Branagh has been forced to leave the production due to his commitments as director of the cinematic adaptation of the Thor Marvel comic series due for release in 2010.

Donmar Warehouse Artistic Director Michael Grandage will be replacing Branagh as director of Hamlet. This recent development means Grandage will now be directing all of the Donmar West End productions. As a result of this busy schedule Grandage will not be making his National Theatre debut directing Danton's Death by Georg Büchner as previously planned.

Branagh will remain an Artistic Associate of Hamlet but those who no longer wish to see the production without him at the helm can claim a full refund from their ticket provider at any point before 29th May 2009.
