Avenue Q Posts Closure Notices
Broadway import and West End favourite, Avenue Q, has posted closing notices at the Noël Coward Theatre. The multi-award winning comedy musical opened in the West End in June 2006 to rave reviews.
After numerous extensions, the show (which was originally intended to only have a limited run) is now in its third year and is about to celebrate its 1000th performance. Avenue Q's phenomenal stint in the West End will now finish on 28th March 2008 to make way for the screen to stage adaptation of Calendar Girls which opens at the Noël Coward Theatre in April 2009.
Avenue Q has a delightfully witty score by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez and a truly outrageous book by Jeff Whitty. These, combined with the hilarious puppetry made the musical an almost overnight hit with the iPod generation.
Since it opened, Avenue Q has been awarded Tony Awards for best musical, best book of a musical and best original score. The show has also been nominated for three other Tony Awards, five Drama Desk Awards, a Grammy, an Olivier Award and two Israeli Theatre Awards.
Avenue Q is booking until 28th March 2009 at the Noël Coward Theatre, book quickly to ensure you see the funniest show in town before it closes.Published by: Jonathan Dudley
