Actors Pay Deal Stalls
Negotiations for a new pay deal for West End actors have stalled at the last minute. Acting union, Equity, has been forced by its members to demand improved pay offers from theatre management. This news comes after 16 months of negotiations between Equity and the Society Of London Theatre (SOLT).
The new deal, rejected by West End casts, would have seen the minimum wage for cast members increased to £600 per week. In return for improved pay many producers would have been given the opportunity to begin Sunday openings.
Equity negotiators were reportedly heavily in favour of accepting the offers but a majority vote from the union's members was required to finalise the deal. The results of the ballot have not yet been made public but Equity have revealed they have had to reopen negotiations with SOLT following the vote.
An Equity spokesperson has reportedly mentioned clauses regarding understudy, ensemble and swing roles being the focus of the the new negotiations which are expected to reopen very soon.
