Veteran actor Ian Carmichael has died at the age of 89.
Best known for his screen work with stars such as Clark Gable and Lana Turner, he also starred on stage in comic plays including Boeing-Boeing, which marked his Broadway debut, and was famous for his work in musicals and revues during the 1940s and 1950s.
After training at Rada, he made his stage debut as a robot at the Peoples Palace in Mile End, East London in 1939, but his acting career was interrupted by military service in Europe with the Royal Armoured Corps during the Second World War.
