The story is simple but utterly engrossing. Zurga, a fisherman, is elected leader of his people. He and his friend Nadir discuss the past, reminiscing about a time they both fell in love with a mysterious priestess, threatening their friendship. They swear to always remain friends.

This solemn promise is quickly tested when a priestess named Leila arrives to conduct a vigil of prayer for the fishermen. Nadir recognises the woman as the priestess he and Zurga loved and he goes to her in the night. Passion, jealousy and death follow, so book now to find out how the story ends.
