Theatre Architecture

The Architecture of The Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, Bertie Crewe and Cecil Masey, with Theodore Komisarjevsky as Art Director. The beautiful theatre has a distinctly Italian flavour. The entrance is a canopied rotunda with four columns - topped by an attic with square windows. Inside, the auditorium shines with gold leaf, decorated ceilings and sculpted doors. The safety curtain is a realisation of Jacopo del Sellaio's The Triumph of Love.
