Noel Coward Theatre

Theatre Architecture

The Architecture of The Noël Coward Theatre

The Noël Coward theatre was designed by renowned architect W. G. R Sprague in 1903 in the classic style, the auditorium is Louis XVI in style decorated in a colour scheme of cream, gold, brown and grey which lends an elegance to the building.

The theatre remains almost as it stood a hundred years ago, with the only refurbishments occurring to modernise the building in order to keep up with public demand. In 1968 the fly towers were electrified for ease of use and the public domains and dressing rooms updated for comfort. The theatre was given a major overhaul in 2006 when it was taken over by the Delfont Mackintosh Theatre Group but the company remained faithful to the original designs.
