Could a star-studded production of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion be heading to the West End stage?

According to the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye, yes it could. The show has already enjoyed a successful run at the Chichester Festival Theatre with Rupert Everett playing Henry Higgins. Bamigboye has suggested that Everett may transfer with the production to the West End and could be joined on stage by Billie Piper, Angela Lansbury and David Jason.
Can producers Duncan C. Weldon and Paul Elliott manage to pull off such ambitious casting? If so, it would mark the first time David Jason has appeared on the West End stage since 1985 and Lansbury’s first West End performance since 1976. The Telegraph’s Tim Walker wrote an interesting piece in his Mandrake column in September 2010 suggesting that Lansbury was looking to make a West End comeback, so perhaps this dream cast really is possible?
Keep an eye on the West End news over the next few months, we could well see Billie Piper playing Eliza Doolittle, David Jason as Alfred P. Doolittle, Angela Lansbury as Mrs Higgins, and Rupert Everett as Henry Higgins in 2011. How exciting!
