Hollyoaks And Emmerdale Pair In Departure Lounge

Dubbed ‘High School Musical with a hangover’, the musical comedy Departure Lounge is opening at London’s Waterloo East Theatre next month.
Hollyoaks and Dancing on Ice star Chris Fountain will lead the cast alongside Emmerdale actress Verity Rushworth, who recently made her West End debut in Hairspray.

A scene from the New York production of Departure Lounge
With a simple set and just two acoustic guitars, Departure Lounge tells the story of four teenage boys going home to their A Level results after a drunken week in Malaga. Memories of the last seven days vary from lad to lad, particularly when it comes to one girl in particular…
Despite the initially unappealing premise of four teenage boys discussing booze, sex and sick, Douglas Irvine’s comedy has already enjoyed sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh Festival and NewYork’s Summer Play Festival and won positive reviews from many critics.
With cast members guaranteed to attract attention (Chris Fountain, it seems, it quite popular with the ladies) it will be interesting to see how the show is received when it opens next month.
The story appears to be deeper than first impressions suggest, and the little bit of the show I’ve heard so far sounds like a musical adaptation of The Inbetweeners (no bad thing), so I’m quietly excited about seeing Departure Lounge when it opens at the Waterloo East Theatre on September 30.
So, what about you? Interested?
