Creator of hit musical show Glee, Ryan Murphy, has announced plans to pen a new musical drama, this time starring Kristin Chenoweth!
According to Murphy, he’s “writing a half-hour musical comedy specifically for Kristin because if you can sing like that, I want her to be the star of her own show where she sings.”

The wonderful Kristin Chenoweth in Glee
Chenoweth is, of course, one of the untouchables after originating the role of Glinda in Wicked the musical, and if you’ve seen her on Glee, then you know that this show already has potential. But it also has the potential to fail. Let’s be honest, musicals are awesome, but they can be a bit hit-and-miss.
Can another musical sitcom actually be successful? It is very hard to maintain a season full of plot twists and turns if characters keep bursting into song.
Glee has a rotating cast full of strong characters and is set around what is essentially a high school choir. It also features a lot of popular music, and as a result, you’ve never been forced to listen to lame, forced lyrics about vegetables and so on.
What sort of show is Murphy going to create that will work as an adult musical comedy?
At first, I pictured a psychotic actress who just randomly bursts into song, but I reckon that would get old quickly.
The next thought that came to mind was that perhaps Chenoweth would be the owner of one of those odd ice-cream stores that makes all the employees sing, and this started to satisfy immensely. Employee training, a crazy singing boss, it could be like The Office meets The Von Trapps and now I’m excited.
Whatever happens, I can’t wait to see what Murphy and Chenoweth deliver.
