BBC’s Over The Rainbow runner-up Sophie Evans is to be leading lady Danielle Hope’s understudy in the upcoming West End production of The Wizard of Oz musical.

She's back, and she's Dorothy. When Danielle's not doing it.
The news comes as no surprise to many. After her near-miss at stardom on Over The Rainbow, Evans was quoted saying that Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber would “look after” her for the next year.
Webber’s runner’s up often do rather well in Theatreland. Wolfboy’s Daniel Boys was a contestant on Any Dream Will Do, fellow Over The Rainbow contestant Lauren Samuels has been cast as Sandy in Grease in London, and I’d Do Anything contestant Niamh Perry originated the role of Fleck in Love Never Dies the musical.
Andrew Lloyd Webber himself made an announcement regarding Sophie’s casting at a press conference in Cardiff today. According to The Wizard of Oz’s official website, Sophie will play Dorothy on Tuesday evenings from 8 March 2011 and “for 7 performances in the weeks commencing 2 May, 5 September & 12 September 2011″.
