George Galloway Writes Dusty Springfield Musical

George Galloway has scripted a musical based on the life of singing sensation Dusty Springfield.
The former MP, well-known for his anti-war views, has teamed with writer Ron McKay to document the turbulent life of the 60s star — including everything from her drug and alcohol addiction to her sexuality.
According to Galloway, the production “won’t shirk” from any of the juicy details — hardly surprising seeing as Galloway has never been one to shy away from drama or controversy.
A strong-minded individual, Galloway has had a fiery political career, actively opposing the Gulf War, fighting economic sanctions against Iraq and campaigning for Palestine. He was even expelled from both the Labour Party and the House of Commons.
The musical, however, will not be overrun with politics, and Galloway says it will be “political with a small p”.
A new project for the politician, Dusty is set to hit the stage next year and an unknown actress has apparently already been selected for the leading role.
Who do you think would be a good choice to play the soul-singer? And would you be interested in seeing this show about one of the world’s most famous female singers written by one of British politics’ most controversial figures?

This seems like it’s going to be an epic musical. As much as I don’t think she’d be great in a West End role (however I’ve heard claims from audiences that she was great in her Little Voice role) Diana Vickers could be a good shout for the lead…
