Interesting Facts
Duck Tours takes its name from the vehicles it uses, the amphibious DUKWs that were used to take the troops ashore for the D-Day landings. London Duck Tours operate five of these mighty machines which were built in America during the mid 1940's. The vehicles were used to transport supplies from ships to points on land, loaded at sea and then driving onto the land to the drop off point. They first saw service during the D-Day landings, for which over 21,000 of them were built.
The strikingly painted Ducks used for the tour have all been extensively refurbished and meet all the stringent safety regulations of the road and river authorities. They can seat up to 30 people and are fitted with safety equipment and a public address system for the guided tour.
- Did you know that there are 146 sites of scientific interest within 5km of the River Thames!
- You can hire the Duck for extended use or as an alternative transport option.
- Nothing compares to the thrill of literally driving from the road straight into the Thames!
