Synopsis
Go, go, go Joseph you know what they say, Hang on now Joseph you'll make it some day, Sha la la Joseph you're doing fine, You and your dreamcoat ahead of your time.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a light-hearted take on the Bible story of Joseph and his eleven brothers, found in the book of Genesis. Joseph's brothers are jealous of his father's preference for him and the fact that he is able to interpret dreams. It doesn't help that in these dreams Joseph rules over all of them. The amazing coat given to Joseph by his father makes the brothers even more jealous, so they decide to get rid of him once and for all by selling him as a slave to the Ishmaelites, who take him away to Egypt. The story doesn't end there - Joseph becomes a slave to Potiphar, an Egyptian millionaire. He quickly rises from a common slave to having responsibility for running the household. One day, Potiphar's wife tries to seduce Joseph, and although Joseph refuses her, Potiphar throws him into prison. In prison, Joseph interprets other prisoners dreams and becomes well known for his ability to predict the future. Meanwhile, the Pharaoh is having dreams which no one can interpret. He hears of Joseph's powers and sends for him. Joseph listens to the Pharaoh and predicts that Egypt will experience seven years of prosperity followed by seven years of famine. The Pharaoh is so impressed that he puts Joseph in charge of preparing for the seven years of famine, and he becomes the most powerful man in the country. At the same time, Joseph's brothers are in the grip of a famine themselves and go to Egypt to beg for food. Will Joseph and his family be re-united and live happily ever after? Watch the show to find out! Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is packed full of classic songs, lots of laughs and spectacular effects.
