The production opens with an eccentric man sitting in a chair in his living room ranting to the audience about modern day theatre productions and how they cannot compare to the old ones. He decides to put on his favorite 1920s cast album on his phonograph to lighten his mood and the musical then bursts to life in his living room. The comic tale centers a glamourous Broadway girl and her decision to give up the glitz and glam to marry and handsome man she hardly knows. However her cigar smoking producer is not ready to give up his prize actress and takes necessary measures to save his valuable starlet. Mistaken identity, spit-takes, gangsters and token characters all add to the hilarity of this performance. The Man in the chair's narration through the production adds comic elements to the performance as he is able to freeze the action and add his personal opinion on the fanasty production.
