The Comedy Theatre opened in 1881 and during its immense history has been graced by actors such as Michael Gambon, Maureen Lipman, Ewan McGregor and Stockhard Channing. During World War One it was home to the famous reviews of C B Cochran and André Charlot. In the days of censorship by the Lord Chamberlain, it was a members club for viewing 'banned' plays.
