Buddy Holly Music

Buddy Holly started playing bluegrass music in high school as part a of a duo with his Bob Montgomery. 'Buddy and Bob' enjoyed some success at local clubs and school talent shows. But when Buddy saw Elvis perform in his home town of Lubbock, Texas and decided he wanted to play rock and roll music. Soon after he appeared on the same bill as Elvis, was offered a recording contract with Decca Records and the rest is history. His music was sophisticated for the time, using instruments considered unusual in rock and roll, such as the celesta, as heard on That'll Be The Day. He also used more complex harmonies and melodies than had previously appeared in rock and roll music.
