Hancock is currently starring as Mother Superior in Whoopi Goldberg's West End production of Sister Act the musical.

Early Life

Hancock was born in 1933 on The Isle of Wight, England. Sheila was educated at the Dartford County Grammar School and went on to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Career Highlights

Hancock has starred in major television shows such as EastEnders and Doctor Who. She has also appeared in over 40 films throughout the five decades of her career including Carry on Cleo (1964) and Night Must Fall.

Hancock has appeared in a host of West End shows including her West End debut in Breath of Spring( 1958) and Caberet (2006). She is currently starring as Mother Superior in Sister Act the musical.

Interesting Facts

  • When Sheila appeared on Room 101 and nominated Chiswick Post Office and, strangely, herself.
  • Sheila is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

  • Sheila was awarded the O.B.E in 1974 for her services to drama
