Stewart was born in Yorkshire 1941. He studied at Mirfield Secondary Modern School, however, dropped out of his studies at the age of 15 and began to work for a local theatre. He enrolled on an acting course at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and also trained as a boxer.Career Highlights
Stewart is an Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has starred in plays including Henry 1V and Hamlet. He also played the title role of Yonadab at the National Theatre(1986) and recently starred as Vladimir in Waiting for Godot.A talented and successful actor Stewart played the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation(1987 - 1994) and in the X-Men trilogy as Charles Xavier.

- In 1992, aged 51, Patrick was named The Sexiest Man on Television by TV Guide Magazine.
- Starring alongside Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot is nothing new: the pair worked together on the X-Men films.
- After appearing with David Tennant in the RSC's recent version of Hamlet, Patrick has expressed a keen desire to appear in the BBC's Doctor Who.
Awards
- In 1992 Patrick won the Desk Drama Award for the Best Solo Male Performance for his one-man adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
- In 1994 the same play won him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in a Solo Performance.
- Patrick was named in the 2001 New Year's Honours List and was given an OBE.
