Early Life

Djalili was born on 30 September, 1965 in Chelsea, London to Iranian parents. He attended Holland Park School before heading to the University of Ulster in Coleraine, Northern Ireland where he studied English and Theatre studies.

Career Highlights

Djalili has enjoyed great success at the Edinburgh Festival performing one-man theatre pieces and stand-up acts. His stand-up performance entitled Short Fat Kebab Shop Owner's Son (1995), proved one of the most significant successes of his early career.

A spirited and animated comedian, his 2005 festival show, No Agenda, sold a record-breaking amount of tickets totalling over 16,500.

Djalilis films credits include hit movies The Mummy, Mean Machine and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. He currently has a cameo role in Sex and the City 2.

Djalili starred as Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh's West End show Oliver! (2009).

  • Djalili shared a stage with Bill Clinton when he performed in Qatar for the Emir.
  • Djalili successfully brings his Anglo/Iranian heritage to Oliver! the musical in a unique and cleverly incorporated way, playing Fagin with a twist.
