Planer was born in Fulham in 1953. He attended the University of Sussex and went on to study the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.Career Highlights
Planer has starred in many TV comedy shows including, Boom Boom...Out Go The Lights, The Young Ones, Shine On Harvey Moon, Nicholas Craig...The Naked Actor, Simon Gray's Unnatural Pursuits and worked on the Magic Roundabout giving his voice to the characters and writing scripts.Planer has also appeared in Puccini's La Boheme (2005), Ben Elton's We Will Rock You (2006) and top London show Wicked (2008). He played the role of Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray (2009) and is appearing as the loyal husband again in the UK tour of the show (2010). He staged his first play On The Ceiling in London in 2005.
