Early Life

Lucas was born on 5 March 1974 to a Jewish family and grew up in Stanmore, Greater London. He attended Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School and went on to study drama at Bristol University 1993-1995.

Career Highlights

Lucas starred as George Dawes, the giant, joke-telling, insult-dishing baby in Shooting Stars. He also worked alongside David Walliams in the award-winning show Little Britain.

A talented performer, Lucas earned a role as Keith Halliwell in Prick Up Your Ears, which recently showed at the West End, however, he had to cut his role short due to personal tragedy.

Lucas recently appeared in the movie Tweedledee and Tweedledum and in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland alongside Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway.

Interesting Facts

  • Matt Lucas has had alopecia for the majority of his life, losing his hair completely when he was only 6. He states the condition could have been caused by various events including a delayed reaction to a car crash when he was four years old.
  • In April 2004 Lucas appeared on Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and won £62,500 for The Karen Morris Memorial Trust. Lucas is a patron of the UK charity which supports patients with leukaemia and their families.
  • In May 2008, Lucas was placed 8th on the list of UK's most influential gays and lesbians by British newspapers The Independent and The Daily Mail. He was considered influential in fields ranging from entertainment to politics.
