It was announced in April 2008 that she would be starring as 'Ms Darbus' in the West End version of High School Musical Live on Stage. The production will play at London's Hammersmith Apollo from July 2008 and will run for eight weeks.

Early Life

Letitia Dean was born in Hetfordshire to parents Leslie and Ellie Dean. She was the youngest of three children and she has two older brothers Stephen and Martin.

Dean started performing at an early age; both she and her older brother Stephen had attended a local dance school. This lead Dean to enroll at the world famous Italia Conti Theatre School at the age of ten. After graduating, she began to attend the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone, London, which has famously produced some of Britain's most familiar television and musical stars. Dean stayed at the school as a full-time student for several years learning acting, singing and dancing.

Career Highlights

Dean began performing professionally at the age of 12, when she was cast as 'Pepper' in the hit stage musical Annie. A few years later, after she received formal vocal training, she landed the lead role of 'Sandy' in Grease which really kick-started her successful stage career.

As a teenager she starred in a number of different television programs including Love Story; Tales out of School[i] and [i]Grange Hill were she played a student named 'Lucinda Oliver', she also played the character of 'Dawn' in the Channel 4 soap Brookside.

Arguably the pinnacle of her career came when she tried for a role in EastEnders and was given an audition on the strength of her photograph alone. Although Dean was brought up in Herfordshire, she told the producers that she was a real East End girl to help clinch the part. It has even be said that Letitia's laugh made an impression on the casting directors, which has been described as 'dirtiest' in the in world.

Interesting Facts

Dean played Sharon Watts in EastEnders, the adoptive daughter of Queen Vic proprietors 'Dirty Den' and 'Angie Watts'. Dean originally left the show in 1995 but returned in 2001. She undertook another hiatus in early 2005 before finally hanging up her soap star shoes in January 2006.

Dean regularly appears in seasonal pantomimes with ex EastEnder co-stars such as Steve Mcfadden.

Dean has also appeared on many reality television shows including the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Awards

Dean was Nominated for 'Best Actress' at the British Soap Awards in 2004. However, she lost out to Coronation Street's Suranne Jones.

In 2005 Dean was presented with the coveted 'Outstanding Achievement Prize' at the Inside Soap Awards for her work in EastEnders.
