Early Life

Andrews was born in Walton-on-Thames and was educated at the Woodbrook School in Beckenham. She has voice lessons with Madame Lilian Stiles-Allen and enrolled in the Cone-Ripman School in London which taught ballet mixed with academic subjects.

Career Highlights

Dame Julie Andrews has starred in many screen and stage productions and is best-known for playing the lead roles in the musical film The Sound of Music (1956) and Disney's extraordinary Mary Poppins (1964).

Interesting Facts

• Julie lost her incredible singing voice in March 1998 after throat surgery, the loss of her voice was not officially announced until November of that year.
