Barrowman is to star in the fourth season of hit TV show and Doctor Who spin off Torchwood. He is also currently appearing as bad boy Patrick in the TV show Desperate Housewives.

Early Life

Barrowman was rorn 11th March, 1967 in Glasgow and spent the first eight years of his life in Scotland before his family relocated to the states in 1975. He attended Joliet West High School where he performed in many school productions of Hello, Dolly, Oliver, Camelot and Anything Goes. He graduated in 1985 before attending university in San Diego and later returning to the UK in 1990.

Career Highlights

A successful actor, John Barrowman is well-known for his role as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and Torchwood and has starred in West End shows including The Phantom of the Opera London, Anything Goes, The Fix and La Cage Aux Folles.

Barrowman became a judge on the panel of Andrew Lloyd Webber's reality talent show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria in 2006 and went on to be a judge on Webber's Any Dream Will Do (2007) and I'd Do Anything 92008).

Interesting Facts

• Voted the 2006 Stonewall "Entertainer of the Year" and was third in Broadcast magazine's "Hottest Commodity" poll in November 2006.
• While visiting the gardens at Highgrove, the home of HRH The Prince of Wales, he was "caught short" and he set off an alarm whilst urinating in the garden.
• Barrowman and his boyfriend Gill became civil partners on December 27, 2006
