Early Life

Lumley was born 1 May 1946, Sringar in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir where he father served in the 6th Gurkha Rifles. She moved to Malaya after the independence of India and settled in Kent. She was educated at St Mary's School in Hastings and went on to the Lucy Clayton School of modeling.

Career Highlights

Lumley has starred in a host of hit television series playing roles including Purdey in The New Avengers, Sapphire in Sapphire and Steel, Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous and Davina Jackson in Sensitive Skin. She has also worked alongside Dawn French collaborating on works such as the TV sketch show French and Saunders.

Lumley is currently starring as The Princess in the West End show La Bete

Interesting Facts

Lumley was the face of a campaign to provide all Gurkha veterans who served in the British Army before 1997 the right to settle in Britain. She is also a supporter of human rights organization Survival International.
