Early Life

Born in Glasgow in 1979, James studied at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Jordanhill and in 2000 graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Career Highlights

James starred as Steve McBride in the C4 series Shameless in 2004 and has appeared in many films including Last King of Scotland (2006) and Atonement (2007). He also performed in Three Days of Rain at The Apollo Theatre (2009).

Interesting Facts

McAvoy is a supporter of the Red Cross and, after making Last King of Scotland, has travelled to Uganda to raise awareness of the charities work.
