Menzel was born on 30 May 1971 in New York. She grew up in Woodbury, Long Island, having moved between Queens and New Jersey and graduated from New York University's Tisch School of Drama with a bachelor's degree in Drama.Career Highlights
A talented and inspirational actress, Menzel originated the role of Maureen in Rent which opened off-Broadway at the New York Theatre (1996) and moved to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (1996/1997). She was also the first person to play Elphaba in Wicked the musical on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre (2003) and in the West End (2006) at the Victoria Apollo Theatre.Interesting Facts
