Early Life

Denise was born on 27th May, 1974 in Basildon, Essex. Her parents enrolled her into the renowned Sylvia Young Theatre School where she learned vital acting and presenting skills.She began modelling early in her career which helped her reach stardom in no time at all.

Career Highlights

Van Outen's is well-known for presenting The Big Breakfast in 1997 alongside Johnny Vaughn.

Denise starred as Roxie Hart in West End musical Chicago (2001 and 2002) and in on-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday (2003). She went on to play Maureen in the London revival of Rent Remixed (2007).

A great actress and a West End star, Van Outen was asked to be a panelist on Any Dream Will Do (2007), on which she met now husband and winner of the show Lee Mead.

Denise Van Outen is currently treading the board as wacky hairdresser Paulette in Legally Blonde The Musical showing at the Savoy Theatre.

  • Denise was actually born as Denise Outen. The Van part was added later in life to make her name sound more interesting and acknowledge her Dutch roots.
  • Denise was also known as Denise Douglas in her earlier days on stage. She sang in a girl group under this name.
  • Denise has had chart success in 2 occasions in the late nineties, reaching number 3 in 1998 with a cover of "Especially For You" alongside Johnny Vaughn.
