David Tennant

Tennant starred as Lord Pomfrey in St Trinian's 2, The Legend of Fritton's Gold. He will be playing the role of James in new comedy Decoy Bride.

Early Life

Born in Bathgate near Glasgow in 1971, David took to acting at a very early age. He trained at The Royal Academy of Music and Drama and after he graduated, toured with experimental Scottish theatre group 7:84. After some very mixed reviews, Tennant found his big break came when he was given the part of Campbell Bain in the BBC's award-winning production of Takin' Over the Asylum.

Career Highlights

A talented and admirable actor, Tennant starred as the tenth incarnation of the title role in the BBC's Doctor Who (2005 - 2010) and is well-loved by fans of the show.

Interesting Facts

  • David changed his surname to Tennant to join the Equity Union. He chose that name out of respect to Neil Tennant, the lead singer for The Pet Shop Boys.
  • One of David's first screen performances was as a transsexual barmaid in the comedy series Rab C. Nesbitt.
  • In his performance in Joe Orton's What the Butler Saw, David had to appear on stage almost naked. In fact, he was wearing nothing but a policeman's hat!
